As well as running, I have also chosen my own Slimming World postpartum regime to get back into shape.

I am someone who tries hard to maintain, and promote, an active fit lifestyle. Furthermore, I’ve never been that keen on fad/yo-yo dieting. However, as a previous successful Slimming World candidate, I knew this was the perfect programme to get my eating back on track after pregnancy.

During Pregnancy

Any woman experiencing pregnancy will tell you that the experience disrupts your normal eating habits, and even creates new ones! Sure, there are cravings, and these can be rather peculiar at times. But, it can also result in enlarged portion sizes, and changes to your taste buds. I’ve always preferred a savoury snack to sweet, but pregnancy turned this upside down both times.

On average, women tend to put on 2 1/2 stone during pregnancy. I have to admit, I found this difficult to deal with. I am, by no means, obsessed with my body image. However, I do like to maintain a good BMI and fitness level. So being over weight was always at the back of my mind in the first few months, after having my baby.

Slimming World Postpartum

I was therefore keen to get back to my usual exercise regime, but as you will see in my Six Months Post Partum Blog, being a busy mum of two made this near to impossible. When I did find time to go for a run, or attend my zumba class, I found it so much harder than before pregnancy.

I therefore decided to take more control of my eating habits, and following the Slimming World programme was ideal for this. Rather than a fad diet, which prevents you from eating what you like, Slimming world encourages you to be more conscious of what you are eating, whilst allowing a ‘little and often’ attitude to the more indulgent foods we enjoy.

The programme is easy to follow, and with a little bit of preparation and dedication, the weight will begin to fall off. Support is essential. Your slimming world group, and consultant, are there to discuss your weight loss journey. It’s also useful to have support at home, particularly to share your success, or if you’re having a tough week.

When my baby reached 4 months, I was conscious of my need to regain a healthy lifestyle. But I was held back by the fact that I was breastfeeding…I was always hungry! I told myself it was OK, because I was feeding both of us. But, deep down, I knew that was an excuse to continue enjoying the less healthy habits I had picked up.

Slimming World Success

Slimming World allowed me to eat whenever I was hungry. Suddenly I was eating the right things, and the extra weight I was carrying began to disappear. After 12 weeks I had lost 1 1/2 stone. This made me feel; more in control, more healthy, less self conscious, more agile, and above all, more like myself.
I began to recognise myself again! I was able to appreciate what my body had achieved in the last 14 months. Now I am beginning to get back to my exercise and I’m enjoying it more than ever.

Slimming world gave me the focus, direction, and confidence I needed to concentrate on improving myself. I would highly recommend slimming world as a WAY OF LIFE…AND a fantastic kick start back to health after pregnancy.
