So, Why Am I Swapping a Blood Donation for Each Kilometre of the Kenilworth Half Marathon Challenge?
It was just 3 years ago when I made my first blood donation. My eldest son had turned 1 year old, I had worked hard to get back in shape, and I was at my fittest. I had given up alcohol, was running regularly, and felt it was worth making an appointment to give it a go.
Prior to this, in fact, from my early teenage years, I had been prone to, and suffered at times from anaemia. At this point, I was unsure if my blood count would be high enough to donate but I was curious to find out.
My First Blood Donation
When attending my first appointment, the blood donation team could not have been nicer. My opinion is that the whole set up is very impressive. There is a very real understanding of how precious people’s time is, and so they promise to have you in and out within the hour; and they did. I was delighted to learn that my blood count was high, and that my donation was welcomed, and
gratefully received. I have continued to donate as regularly since, and I can’t lie, every time I do, I feel good about
As a busy working mum of 2, time is limited and very precious, but none of us ever know when
we might need it ourselves…and it’s just 1 hr every 3 months!
Unfortunately there are a number of reasons people are unable to donate, for example, a current health condition such as diabetes, or due to age or weight. For me, this just highlights why it is important for people to donate if they can.

Kenilworth Half Marathon
The Kenilworth Half Marathon will be my first half marathon! As a 10k runner, this is somewhat of a challenge for me.
Although running is a huge part of my lifestyle now, I have found the training hard work. With little time to train, and such an increase in distance from my normal race, I needed to create some positive motivation which not only I would benefit from. This is when I discovered the ‘Pledge a Pint‘ campaign, and I knew this was what I had to do.
The Kenilworth Half Marathon celebrates it’s 20 year Anniversary this year, and promises to be a great occasion with a fantastic atmosphere.
Please come along and join us on Sunday 1st September to be part of the celebration and support us! Further details are available HERE.
If you would like to donate blood and pledge it to my campaign, simply visit the website and make an appointment at a donation site near you. https://www.blood.co.uk/
A big THANK YOU to those who have already signed themselves up and donated, you have done something amazing!
